SNOW - It is going to Snow.

Well we just came in from taking care of the birds hopefully for the last time this eve. Snow just started to let up. Work on the driveway will start tommorrow. It's 1500 ft long and 10 ft wide. Someone better at math can fiqure out how many cubic ft of snow will be moved. Luckly we have use of a tractor. Sure wish I had bought a blade for it but a bucket is still better than shoveling. Included some pics my lab is in heaven with the snow. Ducks don't seem to care they have decided to start laying eggs in the last few days. Bator is warming as we type!!! Even our Lakenvelders gave us 3 eggs in the last day. Snow babies ? Gonna start 11 mallards 4 rir's and 3 Lakenvelders tonight.

Take some pain relief before you get too miserable everyone... Think I'll take a couple more ibuprophen now!
Here's what Teddy thinks of shoveling...

Hard to tell how much we got. But it looks like 30 inches here too. At least in the areas I need to go!

Teddy does pretty well at forging a trail for Taz and the cats to follow but Taz has been able to get on top of the snow and lays out flat, dragging his belly across the snow with his back legs stretched out trying to get where he wanted to go. LOL funny! Snow surfing!

Our neighbor finally plowed our driveway for us last night. So, I decided to go to the store. It was dark by the time I finished cleaning off the car, then I got stuck in the part of the driveway the car was in that the plow couldn't reach. So my DS was helping me, trying to push me out, when suddenly he says "wait".....there in my headlights was Potpie, one of our Golden Pencilled Hamburg hens. For some reason she had made her way up from the barn, fifty yards away, to a spot near or maybe under my car. How or why in the world she came all the way up to the house, through the snow, by herself, is a mystery. She was in snow up to her stomach and barely able to move, plus of course she couldn't see in the dark. My DS rescued her, brought her in by the fire for a while, then put her in an enclosed warm pen with deep straw for the night, til she could finish warming up. Wth was she thinking???? That has never happened before, usually they wont go out at all if there's snow on the ground. She would not have survived the cold overnight, or even if she had survived the cold, she would've been dinner for someone. Close call!

I do think they know to come to the house when they are in trouble. They usually do come up to the house when the weather is better; I think she just started to, then got lost in the snow, or something. Anyway, she's fine now, back with the flock.

Snowstorm two is here; supposed to get an additional six to eight inches, plus some ice, blowing and drifting snow all day tomorrow.
