Snow load

My practice has always been to build my coops in the fall and let them go through a winter empty so I can make sure they are water tight and can handle a snow load. Well I'm proud to say all my coops handled a solid 9 days of record snow levels without a leak or sag. Unfortunately our old termite infested barn didn't. There was nothing of value and no critters in the barn so no one was hurt.

When talking live loads such as snow, it sometimes can take awhile for the affects to be seen but guessing by the look of the snow on the roof it is a relatively steep roof. You should still be fine. Plus the fact it is rather small helps alot too. Glad to hear it still stands.

That picture of the barn is a rather picturesque one.

If your not spanning more than 8 feet and at 2 foot centers, a 2x4 rafter will hold the weight of of a tractor. More snow than I can imagine and in Minnesota we generally get a LOT so I dont have to imagine much.....

60" of snow in the month of December alone.

And people were asking me back in July "Why did you build it so high off the ground"?
