I live in the foothills of Colorado and have super durable cold weather chickens so I usually don’t worry about my girls and the cold. However, they are currently molting and we’re getting a huge snow storm and a temp shift down to 2 degrees. I have a large dog cage (plenty big enough for 5 chickens) and thought they would be more comfortable in my attached garage for the next two days, they would be a bit cramped but they wouldn’t freeze to death... my husband thinks I’m being paranoid. They are missing a lot of feathers. Can you guys help us decide what to do?

I have a heat lamp in my coop ready to use at any moment. I only plug it in when needed and on the weeks where we have -30F, I have it plugged into a timer to come on for a few hours in the morning and at night. Most people don't use heat lamps at all due to chances of fires and because their chickens don't need it.
