during the day they are outside in a fenced in area, and there is chicken wire over the top so no predators get in, etc.

I have 2x4 wire on my run roof and even it can hold snow if conditions are right,
it almost collapsed the first winter.
Yep, I shovel all winter long, for them to have space to walk around and to give me access to keep roof cleared and it helps speed snow melt season.so I shovel some areas clear for them and they can make do a few weeks with more limited run space.
Learned that the hard the that first year when I had to wade thru knee high snow to save the roof.
