snow

Mine seem to want to escape whenever I open the door, I got them as chicks this past july and had them out in their coop as soon as they got feathers. They do have hay in their house and their run, I think it helps keep mud from building up on their feet and helps buffer them from the cold of winter. they are adventurous chickens, they just want to be free. I like to throw the sunflower seeds in the run and let them seed hunt in the hay, it gives them something to do and they love the seeds. It keeps them from bolting for the door too while I,m egg collecting.

I have a small, simple roost built out of 2 by 2 and a couple of 2 by 4 that sets on the ground in front of the coop were a I shovel away for them. They seem to like perching on it instead of standing in the snow and ice. We have plenty of both this year like everyone else.
