Snowing in Georgia again!

COOL!

I really can't imagine what it is like dealing with this weather with the equipment you have available. Sure, you may have a 4x4 but I bet they are not common.

Here in MN, WI, SD, IA, etc it's RARE to see a 2wd truck. We never go more than a couple years on a set of tires. Or should I say, we throw them out with 1/4 tread left. Every township has snow plows, the counties have a couple in every shop scattered all over the county, and the state has one hell of a fleet of plows. Then the trucks go out and dump salt and sand on all the intersections (at a minimum) and roads.

Last Monday, the southern part of the state pretty much shut down. The even pulled the plows cause they were running into cars stranded on the road. No one could see more than a hundred feet infront of them.

So what do we do?? Get out our snowmobiles!!! Rescue the stranded people and take them to a National Guard Amory for the night.

Wake up in the morning and start digging out! Almost everyone, even in town has a snow blower of some sort (walk behind or tractor). We all help each other out and by 10:00 am it's back to work!!

Hey rebel, what county do you live in? I'm in Hall, the Gainesville area. we dont have anything yet. DD's fiance is a FF (or will be) in Union county.

Yea, were not really set up for it. We are better off than Atlanta but not much. All the fire trucks in my community have auto snow chains or 4X4 but the other communities I don't believe do. The S.O. got a fleet of army surplus K5 Blazers a few years back that are now used as cruisers in the snow. The state has 2 plow/spreader trucks for our county an the county owns 2. We dont have any salt, they use pea gravel.

I always get where I need to but a have a CB radio, cellphone an winter gear with me. I also wait for the traffic to get off the road before I go anywhere.

We are now shut off from the valley. Tractor trailer has shut the road down an no one can get up or down.

We are in North Carolina (piedmont). The sky has gotten very grey. They are calling for anywhere from 5 to 12 inches.

I am excited. We hardly ever get good snows and this one is coming over a weekend. We can stay home and enjoy it.

Really??? We just got our first 4wd last year. It's an old DNR Ford Superduty crew cab that we put a 250 gal tank/pump in the bed for grass fires (it really works good to get to an accident scene too). Everything else is 2wd. I suppose it is because of the terrain more than the snowfall amounts.

I'm luck to be in a well equipped dept. though. This city has a population of about 375 and we have 3 tankers, 2 pumpers, a equipment truck, the grass rig, and a first responder van (old ambulance).

Come to think of it, I don't think any dept.s around here have 4wd pumpers.
