Snowing in Georgia again!

We have an F350 4x4 rescue truck, a F350 4x4 min pumper/brush truck that hold about 250 gallons, an 2 Kenworth T300s class A pumpers. The Kenworths are 2 wheel drive but have auto chains. The both pump at 1500 GPM, one carrys 1500 gallons an the other 1300. We also have 2 regular tankers.

I had to do a search on Auto Chains. Never seen them before. I don't even think using chains is legal in MN. Might have to do a search.....

ETA: Yep, they are: "Minnesota - Permitted when road conditions (ice and snow) require tire chains. Studded pneumatic tires are not allowed on Minnesota registered vehicles."

I wonder why no one uses them? Everyone just kinda learns to stay home (or get snowed in at a bar and grill

) I'll have to ask a few trucker's if they have a set

So, how's the weather now??

Auto chains???? LOL That shows how old I must be b/c we used to use them all the time during the winter, until they passed a law banning them.

Hmmm I think that was right around the time when they banned the studded tires too.

The only chains I am familiar with are the old, heavy chains with binders. The YouTube vid I watched showed a lightweight, easy to install unit. Pretty neat.

I'm 37, so maybe I just never heard the term "auto" before. We "threw the chains on" too, but more primitive and dangerous looking chains. Auto Chains in my head was something that would just appear at the hit of a button

Currently about 3 inches and still coming down lightly. I am in the mtns at 2000 ft. And I hate snow. I've lived in Ohio, Utah and Colorado, a sum total between them of 18 years and I'm so over snow! At least, we don't get 25 below zero, plus ice and snow, like in Ohio-ugliest weather of all the places I've lived.

Auto chains are an arm that swings down by the tire. It has a wheel that rubs on the inside of your tire to make it turn. As it turns it throws lengths of chain under the tire. So it is push button snow chains...... Ill try to find a pic.

Chains an studs are not allowed in Ga but the FD does not have to follow those laws.

Aw, Cyn, your pictures are pretty! I'm not far from you,(Hall county) but far enough to make a difference. Still nothing here, not even rain.
