So what is the difference? they sure look similiar....The mini-silver Appleyard is callduck Appleyard mix? And the Snowy mallard is????

They are essentially almost identical. They are the same color genotype, harlequin phase dusky (Holderread finally agrees with this genotype in his new edition and describes the Mini Appleyard as the same genotype as Snowy). They are also almost identical in size. The Mini Appleyard is usually a little stockier and sometimes slightly smaller, but other than that they are pretty identical. We have raised both for many, many years and sometimes we can't even tell them apart. As far as the history of both, the US Mini Appleyard (now called Silver bantam elsewhere) was originally developed from a small Khaki Campell and a White Call. The Snowy Mallard purportedly was originally developed from sports (basically a random mutation) found in the wild. The color in the Mini Appleyard is fairly consistent since few, if any, people have outcrossed them to other breeds. The Snowy Mallard though occasionally seems to pop up with incorrect color because so many people have taken the poor advice about outcrossing to Gray, something which is totally illogical to do. Birds of the correct color, however, are pure for harlequin phase dusky. Based on illustrations of the original birds and old photos, I believe this to have always been the correct genotype for Snowy.

I knew their was call duck in my mini-appleyards, because my female "Poptart" is the loudest duck I own! I have mine and had seen pics of both and they looked identical to me...... I just didn't know they were Khaki-Campbell breeding too....
