Several weeks ago, I decided to add sprouting seeds to my repertoire of skills. I began reading and watching instructions until my computer's battery charge ran out more than once. My study was exhaustive. When it was time to give it a try, I assembled several kinds of seeds with which to experiment. The red beans did not even begin to sprout; the garbanzo beans began to stink just as they were looking edible. The lentil beans were sprouting just right. Imagine my excitement when, this morning, they were ready! I marched out to the run excitedly to give my six sweet chickens their regular pellets with a side of lentils for breakfast. I was shocked, however, when I checked on them around noon to find out that they had not touched the lentils. I cannot remember my chickens ever snubbing food. What the heck?

Are they used to eating veggies? And have you given them non-pellet food recently (if so, did they eat it?)

Yes, they get veggies and pellets as well as fermented feed on a regular basis. Yesterday evening when it was time for a snack, I poured cut up veggie scraps on top of the uneaten sprouts. Interestingly, the sprouts did eventually get eaten. Maybe the extra time during the day was just what the sprouts needed to reach fruition.
