Have any of you used one of these? I used one in my barn for newly born barn kittens when the weather was cold. They are plastic on the outside and heated in the microwave and maintain heat for up to 12 hours. I'm wondering about putting one under a water container to keep the water from freezing.

I bought one and put it in the little coop. It was frozen in the morning.
It was $40 at Petsmart (had about 5 of them, covered w/ dust). Petsmart refunded my money, no problem.

Great information!!!

I was thinking of buying a new one because mine is 10+ years old. Amazon has some for $25 if needed for small pet beds.

Nope, not for very long at all. Too much heat loss.

You'd be better off with just a very thick whack of insulation. However even that won't do too much good at keeping the 'drinking' part of the waterer from icing over, since obviously that part has to be exposed. Settting the waterer on a well-insulated lidded bucket (or etc) of warm water will help with that latter problem. Insulation is the key.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
