So, anyone read any good books recently?

I read about 3 books a week. The subjects vary widely, I get a lot of books passed to me from an older lady here in town who is another avid reader.

In the last week I have read,
The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson. I enjoyed it, but see no reason to read the other two in that trilogy.
Three books by Robert Galbraith/aka/J.K. Rowling, the Cuckoo's Calling, the Silkworm, and Career of Evil. Entertaining, quick reads(I read these on consecutive days).
Firebird by Janice Graham, meh, I finished it anyway.
The Reckoning by John Grisham, Good book until the end, really two books mashed together with a disappointing end.

I have two books going at the office, but can't recall the titles right now. Neither one is really holding my attention anyway. Up next at home is Furious Hours by Casey Cep. This one is centered around Harper Lee's unfinished final novel and sounds interesting.

Always looking for good reads.

If you choose books of completely different subject matter (i.e. one memoir, one mystery, and one science fiction) it's easy to read multiple books and not get the story lines mixed up.
I think of it like watching different tv shows. I just put one down and pick up a different show. I tend to read a non-fiction and a fiction at the same time, just not lately.

I couldn't read more than one book at a time until my wife explained it to me that way. Now I always have at least 2 going on at once - one at home and one at work.

I like both writers. It is their style of prose that I enjoy most. Fitzgerald's language often brings in struggles of the wealthy and lower class poor. Hemingway brings in common everyday language, making it real. Both I find write in a style that is so emotionally charged. They both were said to have modernised writing in their time. The sun also rises is one of my top ten books! Hemingway wrote with so much passion.
Have you ever read any of Steinbeck?
By the way, I just finished the Great Gatsby this evening. I was hoping to like it now that I am in a different phase of my life (last time I read it was in high school), but I still don't care for it. I've heard great things about This Side of Paradise, so I still have hope for Fitzgerald.
Steinbeck's Grapes if Wrath is on the Great American Read, so it is on my list as well. I'm thinking it'll be something I read over the winter this year.

Oh that's a really good idea! I think I'll try that this summer.
