So Cal Chickenstock

I live in Ramona, CA, yes, the place where the fires always make life exciting...thank goodness my fam and I remain in safe places where fire went around us. We just had the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, but I would love to meet up with some southern ca chickenites! I know members got together for a Chickenstock in the LA area. Let me know if anything develops! I'll be posting pics of my new coop, sort of the "trump tower" of coops with a cement floor and a door to wash all the "residue" away. Wonderful laying boxes and it was not that hard to do...well, couldn't have done it without my ds and a couple of friends!

I've actually been a member for about 5 years but was very ill during the last couple of years. Glad to say I'm fully recovered and healthy about to celebrate my 50th at the end of this month.

I will post pics of my most beautiful birds as soon as I can figure out how...I'm pretty computer savvy, but was never able to download my pics before. Now, with my digital camera I hope I can do a better job.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I think this is the best place to find what I'm looking for.

I'm vegetarian, and don't want to eat eggs that involve killing, and don't really have the space to keep chickens myself (nor am I ready to commit to caring for chickens for a lifetime), so I'd like to find someone who keeps chickens as pets in Southern California (ideally near either Pasadena or West LA) who would be willing to sell me eggs periodically. The stipulations would be that you don't kill any chickens (either culling male chicks or for meat), other than euthanizing a very sick chicken or something like that, and that if you provide your chicken with any feed, it's vegetarian. It's ok if they forage for insects / worms / whatever, as long as any additional feed you provide is vegetarian.

Right now, I'm shipping eggs from a farm in Indiana which meets these criteria, but a lot of eggs get broken in shipping, and it's not really that practical, so I'd much prefer a local source.

And please, no comments from the peanut gallery if you disagree with my views... I'm not trying to stir up trouble here, just looking for something specific that I don't think I can find from a large scale commercial operation.

PM me with your email address and / or phone number if you think you might be able to help me out here.

this is not a peanut comment, but if a person rehomes their rooster and does not ask too many questions about what happens afterward, does that meet your criteria?

I thought about that (or if the person buys from a breeder who culls the roosters). It's a grey area, I guess.... ultimately, I would prefer it it were someone who doesn't breed in the first place, or who keeps the roosters as pets.
