I have 2 new young leghorn-cross hens in with my "big girls". They were supposed to be about 12 weeks when I bought them a few weeks ago. They are quite small compared to some of the big girls, one is bigger than the other, she may be a little older, I don't know.

ANYWAY, I bought this new fancy-schmancy treadle feeder. You can adjust it for different weights of chickens but it was already assembled when I bought it and the big girls could work it so I haven't adjusted anything. I've just been manually scattering the crumble for the little girls because they are too light to work the treadle and I think I have to have it empty to change the setting and I haven't got around to it....

I just went past the big girls run and there are both girls together on the treadle helping themselves from the hopper. They figured out by themselves that they can work it if they both hop on together (or maybe they've also been hopping up with the other girls as well)

Seriously, I'm very impressed!
