This is Baby, a ten week old chicken that I purchased from a mystery pullet box at Bomgaars. First of all, is this a Sapphire Gem? Secondly, is it a rooster? I believe it is, but just wanting to get another opinion. Thank you!

It's not a Sapphire Gem. I think it is a cockerel (based on comb size and redness at that age). I would guess Australorp, but I think there's too much white leakage. Maybe a hatchery hybrid of some sort.

If it has yellow soles ( can't really tell the color from the picture) then I'd say jersey giant because of the white specks. If the soles of the feet aren't yellow, sapphire gem makes sense they can be very dark on occasion. Ive never seen an astro with any white leakage..

My Australorp has a decent amount of white feathers that were being shedded out around that age, specifically coming from the wings. We haven’t seen a white feather since she shedded those. I’m new to chickens so I don’t know if that’s common, but mine looked just like this at this age (minus comb and wattles that red lol)

I'll need to get a look at those feet! Thanks!

This chicken is so confusing! Interesting about the white feathers. I hope I can get to the bottom of it, but he's cute either way :) Thanks!
