Looks like a Silkie right with that mohawk??I stay with female for last one
Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC!Looks like a Silkie right with that mohawk??
The seller told me the barred chicken was an "olive egger". I am praying that is a pullet because it is my daughters favorite bird (of course...) The two white birds are supposed to be white rocks. My little mo-hawk does have feathers on feet and legs. I have to look for a 5th toe. I had a silkie roo previously and I only knew it was a roo AFTER it started yelling at 4am. Totally illegal in my area.Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC!
Your barred bird.. is that a Rock? That one and white one with straight comb and red wattles are indeed cockerels. The light colored Easter Egger looking one, presumably with a pea comb still appears to be a pullet at this point.
The one you call a mo-hawk... is indeed a crested bird that looks like a Silky cross... but that pattern I can see looks like solid feathers.. which makes it a first generation Silkie cross at best. Bred to another Silkie it might produce a % of "Silkied" offspring. That bird is NO Ayam Cemani, for SURE. Does it have feathered legs and a fifth toe? I would hesitate to give positive gender ID.. but it isn't flying any obvious male color flags or other visual indicator that I can see yet.
So I guess that means out of 4 birds I'm also going with 2 pullets and 2 cockerels... barring late bloomers.![]()
Okay, the barred bird MAY be an OE, (honestly the term is used WAY too loosely to describe any bird that has a blue gene and any shade of brown gene. In fact of the mom was barred and the sire was solid it was sexlinked at hatch with a male having white dot on the head, but they might not have known that if they didn't have the barred hens eggs identified).. but as barring goes (aside from the red wattles on this particular bird and if stated age is accurate) males get double wide white bars. On females the white bars are thinner than black... Now, I AM a praying person.. but I swear it's always our favorite one that's male. I do believe that these letting go experiences as children help us in the future when we face much more challenging losses. The seller told me the barred chicken was an "olive egger".
