(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New as of october 2019. It all started with an acquired one legged columbian wyandotte pullet and her barnevelder friend. The wyandotte unfortunately was killed by a hawk in february, but the chicken obsession had begun and my barnie needed more friends to go along with her newly built coop and run
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
A rainbow flock of 8
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barnevelder, light brahma, black australorp, cuckoo maran, speckled sussex, salmon faverolles, ameraucana, and pearl star. They're all named after different types of peppers!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching them just be chickens scratching around and interacting with each other
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, being outside, spending time with my husband
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
my husband and I enjoy a child free life along with our 2 pitbull girls Hannah and Leela, our kitty cat Mia and our chickens. We moved last year from a manicured neighborhood to 7 acres of country life and couldn't be happier with that decision! I'm a licensed vet tech at an emergency and specialty hospital, my job allows for quite a bit of free time with a nurses schedule of a straight 3 days of 12 hour shifts and chicken keeping has turned out to be a great way to fill up my time
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google! I've been creeping ever since getting chickens and have already learned so much. I decided that I wanted to he part of conversations instead of a wallflower
