So I had some cockerels that I was re-homing and had someone reach out to me about them. while we were talking about them and me hatching them etc. he asked if I had an incubator. I said I did. So he asked if I would be willing to hatch some chicks for him. He brought over 22 eggs today for me to try to hatch. He said his roo's have been mounting the hens so they should be fertile. Now the wait...... The only thing is some of the eggs are/were REALLY dirty. I did my best to wipe them with a dry cloth which took some off but not much. So read here about 50/50 water and hydrogen peroxide so tried that which got a bit more off but they are still pretty dirty. Guess I will see what happens. If I get more to hatch from him I will just ask for cleaner eggs. He mentioned that his silkies are still laying so he will collect some of those for me to try next.

I LOVE hatching chicks but it was a bit hard to find homes for all the boys that hatched (think about 50/50 for girl/boy, but I hatched 26 chicks this spring). But I did manage to find them all homes and not pots (some I put up that I was ok if people wanted them for pots instead of a home). but happy to hatch out chicks and then hand them off to someone else after hatch. :)
