That is the exact bottle I use, except got it for cheaper at the pet store. I made sure to get the indoor/outdoor type for them. They drink out of it just fine.

Edit: About potty training hammys. I have to be organized. How else can I major in UW's BioE program(#4 in the US!), raise chickens to sell eggs, work in a lab and wash my car?

I just let that be their only water source, tap at it a few times. and they start pecking... Easy as that. They aren't as dumb as they look at times

I admire you for saying exactly what you think. I wanted 5-6 chickens, no more than ten. I'm getting approximately 30. *laugh* Talk about in over my head.

I, too, am a bit worried that I'll be like: My god, what was I /thinking/? Glad to know I won't be the only one if it happens, and I'm VERY glad to see all the tips. I know I'll need it.

I know a lot of people already commented but I felt somewhat like that because I was afraid I couldn't handle it. Single mom with two boys that don't wash their hands all the time, full-time job, new house to settle into. What was I thinking? Chickens?? But I love them... haven't had a lot of time to "bond".. wish I did because when I was a kid I could train them to jump into my lap.
I keep telling myself that I won't have to spend as much time cleaning once they are able to go outside... till then, I just do what I gotta do!
Pine shavings really must work because I have them in my sunroom/dining room and I NEVER smell them! Even when I'm close. I change it every other day at least though.. I use newspaper underneath it but I wouldn't use newspaper exclusively... It gets even more gross, poop slidding all over the place. As far as the water, I make sure it's full so that all I have to do is take the waterer outside and twist and dump the stuff... new water fills the tray and that's all I have to do until the water gets low.
I didn't know you could give them so many treats at this age! I will try that!
Chickens ARE dumb.. that's what makes them so charming. Kind of like Jessica Simpson... can't wait to see what they come up with next!
