The ops post sounds like she was made to take the last pup against her wishes by her parents. Chill guys. I've ended up with dogs I didn't want and didn't choose too. It sucks and piling on someone that is already upset never helps. Some dogs just aren't 'good' dogs and never will be. Flame away but chill on the OP

Getting a dog that you don't want is not a very good foundation for a dog/ owner relationship and I am sure it makes EVERY annoyance seem 10X bigger. However, you guys are stuck with each other right? Why don't you describe some of your issues in detail and maybe someone will have free advice to help you guys work it out. However, in order for ANY advice to work you are going to have to set that frustration aside. What happened sucks and was not fair but the dog will sense the animosity and it will affect his behavior and receptiveness.

I try not to be frustrated with her or around her. Sometimes I am, though, especially when she misbehaves.

Some of her issues:

Peeing indoors every hour (no joke!) and not just on the floor but on the beds, couches, all furniture. And pooping there, too.

Barking at anyone and everyone who comes in the room, even if they've just gone down the hall to the bathroom. Seriously, we cannot live in peace because if we set foot in the living room, she wont shut up for about a minute!

Digging. I know she is a Dachshund, and I know Dachshunds dig. They were bred for it! But she digs everywhere! Holes in our furniture, holes in our yard... And I have tried everything I know to get her to stop.

Maybe the worst of it is her habit of destroying the house when we leave. When we leave the house, just to play outside, she will knock over glasses, get on tables, shred paper, knock over the trash, strew yarn EVERYWHERE, and shred fabric. It is always a disaster that greets us when we come home!

All of these issues are fixable. You got a small dog of two breeds are some of the most difficult to train. Doxie's are untrainable by societies standards. Kennel training, tethering, and stimulation play would help wonders with her. Feel free to message me, and I will go into details. Its really, really hard to like a dog, when you've already had your heart set on another one. But she's fixable, and I would like to help you, if you would like I have 3 TDI dogs, 1 other has her CGC. And I also was fortuante enough to own two dachsaunds, and I currently have all hound mixes. But, if you want help, I will help you.

Have you tried or considered trying crate training?

It sounds like you have a lot of pent up energy and anxiety on your hands.

What is your day like with her? How often do you walk her and for how long? What kind of play does she enjoy?

It sounds like she has a lot of energy waiting to be tapped into, and that this high excitability ties in with overstimulation(barking excessively). See what improvements you find by tiring her out. You will better know what direction to try with her based on if it helps or does not help.

It sounds like I too would have passed this pup over as you had wanted to do. I've also been in a position as a pre-adult where I was not in control of choosing pets, including pets that were "mine".

She and I both take a six mile walk around the entire neighborhood as well as the one next door, so she definitely gets worn out. (Don't worry, I take good care of her on walks and I am well aware of the dangers of heat exhaustion, so lets not open that can of worms!) I really do love my Sadie dog, though many of the others have put it as me "hating her" and I would really love to be able to never be so disappointed in her. Few dogs are perfect, yes, and the ones that are aren't Dachshund crosses, that's for sure! I know she will always have issues, but I can live with just one or two problems.

That is what happened.

I was planning on getting the pup that I wanted. When I decided not to take the pup offered to me, my parents told me that was just plain rude, since I'd been saying I would take her. I never said I'd take her; I said I'd take the white one!!! when he was adopted, I told my parents and the pups' owners that I DID NOT WANT THE PUP THEY OFFERED ME!!!

And to everyone saying that I should try training her, I have already heard from other trainers that she is not very trainable. We do not have a thousand bucks to spend on a runt pup so that she will become super-smart, so Cesar Millan is out!

Ya I wish I could get Ceaser Mallan to he is just awsome, l have been watching him for years now. I can't say enough good about him just wish some of us that can't afford him could. I went on his web site and we couldn't get him even if we wanted to there is only so much one guy can do and everybody wants him. Sorry this has happened to you best of luck with whatever you end up doin.

I would just like to say that we can only go by what you tell us and the reason I thought you really didn't like the dog was because that is how you make it sound, such as calling it a "spaz"! Anyway, I am sure you are aware that different foods can cause issues, so wondered what you feed him? Please, if you are going to get help with your dogs issues then make sure it is using positive training methods, sounds like your dog has a lot to learn but firm and fair is the way to go, you need to build a bond and I am sure you will, it sounds as if you are prepared to put the work in, it will be worth it X
