so frustrated!

Actually the short ones can be MUCH harder to write, IMO, and THAT may be your real problem--not having the luxury of lots of time to make your case. The short length requires you to tighten your style and make every single word work.

Just a thought....

X1000 Absolutely agreed. Just because the class is not an English class does not mean that writing style and grammar do not play a large role in the grade. In my Geology courses all papers were graded not only for content, but also for how well the content was presented. Two reasons: 1) as the professors told us, "if it's not interesting enough for you to read it to proof it and correct any mistakes, why do you think it will be interesting enough for me to read it," and 2) publication is an important part of employed geologists, so not emphasizing quality of writing from day one was an implortant part of department standards. I would suspect the same two reasons might well apply to Ethics professors and careers.

Rearranging a sentence can change the rhetoric dramatically, and rhetoric is very important in written communication.

I would argue that having 3 weeks to do a rewrite on a 1500 word essay is not writing intensive, especially if there are no other essays required in the next 3 weeks.

While you may have the highest grade in the class, you may not be up to the instructor's standard for an A. You feel your writing is "top notch", and care enough to complain in an open forum. The instructor gave you an opportunity for a rewrite, and a told you what you needed. After all the grousing, you say you might find the time for a rewrite.

If you are that upset, and you have the opportunity for a rewrite, you need to take it. During my college career, many years ago, a rewrite was almost never an option. You got the grade you got. The assignment, due dates, and responsibilities were clear. If the grade was less than you wished, you just had to do better the next time.

You are complaining that you had an opportunity to rewrite, did so, still got a lower grade than you felt you deserved, and the instructor offered to let you rewrite again. I say you have been given more opportunities than most.

I said that it's writing intensive because that's what the school considers it, my degree plan requires a specific number of writing intensive courses. I have a LOT more writing to do in the next 3 weeks; the class is far from over. I understand due dates, responsibilities, and assignment quite well, my point was that I didn't think my paper was inadequate and it was well written, it conformed to her guidelines. I think that she didn't like my position on the particular topic. Please take into consideration that when I had to rewrite my paper the first time it was because she didn't like my topic, the immorality of forced charity. I had to choose another topic and write a brand new paper on it. I can appreciate that she's giving me the option to rewrite it for a 3rd time but it's getting ridiculous.
