Hi. I was lucky enough to learn a little bit about chickens at my former job where I worked at a therapeutic riding center that had chickens and sold eggs. I loved when I could help out and take care of them - trying to soak it all in - hoping we would have some one day. Fast forward some years and the proper home and yard to have chickens... and now we do. We got 4 chicks - 2 were definite hens and 2 were bantams ? I am pretty sure one of the bantams is in fact a rooster :-(
We got them in Tractor Supply and I am not sure what the 2 hens are - only new they were definite girls. My daughter fell in love with the bantams and they said they could be either.

I am the Director at a food pantry so I love when we are able to give out fresh eggs to our clients - I am also looking forward to having fresh eggs at home for friends and family. We are doing this very small at first.

I ordered the coop from Omlet and it is going to take a while to ship. I am very concerned about their safety if I get a regular coop. I know some of our neighbors have lost chickens from animals digging under the coop :-(

So my 2 big questions being a newbie are:
What do I do with my rooster (we named him hawk) :-(
What can I do with my 3 girls when they need to go in coop but I don't have the coop from Omlet yet?'

Thank you in advance to everyone for your knowledge and guidance.
Gi ;-)

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm no fan of pre-fab coops. Do you have any outbuilding that you could convert into a coop?
If you are not allowed roosters where you are, you will have to rehome the one you've got.
