So grateful

Just want to say I am so grateful for joining back yard chicken club. i started raising chickens 18 months ago. i started with six and then my husband bought me 8 more for this last Easter. Out of the 8 I got 3 roosters which one I gave to a good home. After giving the rooster away thinking he was my only one, 2 more decided they wanted to be rooster's. Any ways I have had to reference back to this club on many occasions, but 2 nights ago I came home to one of my hens with a very bloody vent. She was double in size like she had gained a ton of weight over night. I did not know what was wrong with her so i removed her from the coop, set her in a pile of straw and ran in the house to consult all of you. You all came to the conclusion she was egg bond. i followed the step by step instructions i was given except i could not feel the egg. After following the steps anyways figuring it would not hurt and after a lot of tears thinking i was going to loose her by morning, I went back in the coop to tend to my other chicks and hens i found a very large egg covered in blood. i then thought could she have passed this and that is why I am not feeling an egg and I came in to the aftermath? i was hoping. She is doing a lot better now, but I am not sure if she has laid an egg since, which worries me, I wanted to keep her isolated but she insists on going back to the coop.I am afraid she is going to be egg bound again or that she did internal damage straining to get it out, because her vent looked awful the night I thought she had an egg stuck. Any ways I just wanted to thank the club for the advise and help provided to me by you all. I have learned a lot from all of you in so many ways.

This is what is soooooo neat about BYC. There are so many peeps here that are willing to share their knowledge and advice here. I would not have been able to help you much in your particular situation, but if your question would have been about something different,,,,,, I certainly would have.
My knowledge is good in other fields,, like coops, housing, runs, predator prevention. and general care. My chickens have generally been healthy, so my knowledge about diseases is limited. I do have some worthy opinions about feeding, but everyone may not totally agree with me. Have been keeping chickens for 20+years. Only as pets BTW. Most live long lives, with longest @ 13 years. A recent loss was an 11 year old. I only keep hens.
I landed here on BYC in 2014, and have enjoyed learning, and sharing ever since.

Are you able to be ng her inside and put her in a dog kennel a few days to watch her closely? If not then hopefully it was a one time fluke and doesn't happen again.

What do you feed your flock?

I feed them layer pellets and I give them oyster shells and they free range from 2:30 till dusk, once in awhile I give them any veggie's I have left over.

Is she still having trouble laying eggs?

No I think she is fine now, she lays jumbo eggs. I just hope I do not have to go through another egg bound hen any time soon.
