Hello from Wooster Ohio. How exciting to find such a friendly informative place to visit. I am new to chickens, and I LOVE my chickens!!!!
I raised my flock of 8 from 11 eggs I incubated on my first try,July 10. I now realize I was very lucky. Of course I had 5 roos and 3 hens.......lol.
I kept 1 roo and now have 6 hens. I am getting 4-5 eggs a day. I have them in a horse stall with 14 hrs of lights on a timer. I love my mutt hens and I love having a ROO. They are more fun to watch than tv. The Roo respects me but chases my husband which crackes me up.
It feels like Christmas everyday when I find my hens precious eggs.
Our 30 inches of snow is slowly melting. For the winter my chicken are confined to a 12x12 horse stall. I am reading everything I can on enclosures and coops so I will be prepared for spring as I want my girls and roo to have the fun of free ranging our 8 acres. Safety is a big priority of mine. My dogs have a fenced back yard and don't go to the barn without me.
I have several horses and dogs. 3 of my dogs are registered therapy dogs and we visit schools, library, nursing homes regularly. I have shown quarter horses for several years but the economy has put a temporary end to the horse shows. I am now a chickenaholic and I am so happy to have found this great place. newchicks8
