I am a newbie, sort of. We had chickens when I was a kid, but now I am nearing retirement age and just got my own chickens! They are not great layers, but are beautiful! We have 2 roosters and 6 hens. 2 Brahma, 1 Leghorn hen, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 1 Americana. Not sure what breed the roosters are...but they are beautiful. I have learned so much here in the last couple of weeks I had to join! I live on a 200 acre farm in northeast Missouri. We already had a coop, so that was easy. My 4 grandchildren are excited about the chickens, and the eggs! Looking forward to a lot of enjoyment from my chickens and this wonderful site!

Guess I should have mentioned that we also have a 2 yr old Pit Bull who thinks he has to check on the birds every time he goes out! He is curious, but not aggressive toward them. And, thankfully, they don't seem to be scared of him. Of course, if spring ever gets here, we will introduce them gradually with a sturdy fence in between!

Thanks for the welcome. I am hoping to be able to retire in a few years with enough critters to keep me busy, but not working ALL the time to keep up with them. LOL.
