I treated my hens and pullets with Tylan 50 injectable formula. I gave it to them ORALLY as per a suggestion on this site. My chickens were sick... Sneezy and snotty. It worked like a dream and I am happy to report they are all better now (thanks!) BUT, now I have read in several places that I can not EVER eat their eggs again... What? Waaaaaaa!

. Someone... Please tell me this is not true! Is there anyone on here that can let me know for sure? I have been tossing all the eggs for about 17 days now and it is breaking my little heart. I was hoping I could find a vet around here to let me know their opinion... No dice... My town is way to suburban to have a good ol' farm vet type. Please O please can you advise?

I hope someone more knowledgeable answers you. But I can't imagine that that would be true. Why would anyone suggest a medicine that would ruin a chicken or its eggs for life? The medicine has to leave their system eventually.
Good luck!

7 days for the injectable. Good luck.

Thanks chicapee... So you have eaten your eggs after the injectable Tylan? I just am curious why so many people say I can't eat them? I don't want to give my sweet little daughters like a third eye or a horn or anything! Lol!

I would suggest to look up the manufacturer of the product and call them. They most likely have someone knowledgeable on staff to help you :)

I have already checked with the manufacturer. That was the first place I looked. The manufacturer says not to use it on chickens that will be used to lay eggs for human consumption. I am already passed that point... I used it. I got the suggestion to use it from people here on BYC... I am assuming that they use it. I am also assuming they have still been eating their eggs. That is the part I am trying to clarify. Have many people used Tylan 50 injectable on their chickens (I used orally) and then continued to eat the eggs without problems.

I have used Tylan 50 injectable on chickens and began eating their eggs again after two weeks. I don't know what the professionals say or why they say it but I haven't been ill and have experienced no adverse effects.

It is fairly common practice to eat eggs 7 days after the Tylan injectable, and 1 day for oral Tylan (which includes the injectable or the oral powder.) Most all antibiotics and dewormers have manufacturer's labels advising not to use eggs or meat for human consumption which protects them from legal action. Since chickens can be eaten 24 hours after using Tylan, it is safe to say that eggs would be fine after a proper withdrawal time. The following is from the manufacturer:

Residue Warnings: Chickens must not be slaughtered for food within 24 hours after treatment. Do not use in layers producing eggs for human consumption.
Turkeys must not be slaughtered for food within five days after treatment.
Swine must not be slaughtered for food within 48 hours after treatment.
Honey Bees: The drug should be fed early in the spring or fall and consumed by the bees before the main honey flow begins, to avoid contamination of production honey. Complete treatments at least 4 weeks prior to main honey flow.
