I came down stairs today and checked my bator the temp was 97 and the humidity was 24. I added about 6 drops of water and the humidity went to 65. The temp is not staying steady. It was for 3 days until I put the eggs in it.

This is my second time trying to hatch silkies and nothing is working. Out of 15 on my first time none hatched.

I started with 11 and I’m down to 5. I’m going to give up trying to hatch them maybe I’m not suppose to have silkies. If it wasn’t for sonew123 I may not have any at all. She is doing some for me in her bator and sending them overnight. I will be sleeping at the PO waiting for them. I’ll let you know when these hatch. I’m not giving up hope. The temp now is 99.

It's an LG, right? I have heard nothing but bad about them. Brinsea is having a sale on their site. You can get an octogon 20 for $100, and a turner for $50. Even if you dont get the turner, you can turn without opening. Also they are forced air. It's on my "want" list. I will probably ask for it for our anniversary.

If it helps any, I have been there. When you first put eggs in the temp will come down until the eggs warm. Don't touch the thermostate. In a day or so if the temp is not back where it should be then adjust slowly. Small spikes are usually not detrimental unless they are over 105 for some amount of time. If the temp is high just open to release some heat. Every couple of days I had half a cup of water. The humidity might shoot up tempoarily, especially if the water is warm. But it will balance out. If in doubt, add a little at a time. The humidity is better lower until hatch. Then it is important to have it higher. I recommend using a sponge at that time. You have more control with a sponge then a reservoir under the eggs.

Good luck.

I have hatched many eggs in it before but I let someone use it and she turned the thermostate. Her power went out and when it came back on the bator was up to 110. She lost all her eggs. I do have another bator but it holds over 600 eggs and I didn't want to start that thing up for 5 eggs. LOL But I may. Our humidity must be high outside because when I add the water and it's not much and it really goes up. I think it's ok now, it's at 99.5 and 40% humidity so I'm leaving it there. I bet when my 18th day come's I will only need to add 1/4 cup of water if that. I have a little can I put in it on the 18th day with my paper towels and that works good for me here. Thanks for all your information.

I did use the large one before. I had 101 eggs in it and if I can remember correctly 12 were clear and 85 hatched. I wasn't here when they hatched and DH said I better not do that to him again.
