Five Broody hens glaring at me! Five! What the heck am I going to do with 5 broody hens? All fuzzed up growling at me! Now I have two more doing the broody chuckle while they eat. All those extra nest boxes are coming in handy.

You know I got pictures.

No, I'm not hatching out any chicks. The pet sitter took the eggs per my instructions. I don't have the room for any more chickens!

Does the pet sitting still have 10 fingers?

My JG went broody about 10 days ago. First time for her and she's nearly 2 years old. She was the meanest broody imaginable. She would literally rear up and strike at me and bite me to get me to leave her alone. I think she has some viper in her. She was vicious. I couldn't believe it.

I always felt that broodiness was contagious.

Little Sister gave me a good pecking (wearing the hen saver), but she quieted down. Nobody was broody when I left. I was relieved thinking the pet sitter would have an easier job with no broody hens. Figures, huh?

So...do you think that you're going to break their broodiness, or just let them sit? I just had two of my best motherly hens go broody on me. What was funny was that one of them had just literally had a chick a month or two ago. She seemed to have laid the egg, hatched it, kicked him out, and then went back to laying.

Either way...good luck with your broodies!

Wow their feathers are so shiny!

Max # of broodies I've had at once was FOUR and I have silkies! How do you manage to get so many? It's because you don't need them. You need to start hoping for broodies and wishing. That's when they will stop :gig

Oh, broodys. You just gotta love them!
My RSL is broody right now and we're ordering some fertile eggs to hatch under her. If she goes un-broody, I might need one of your hens!

I am always surprised when I hear of breeds like this going broody. They are not supposed to at all! I had a RIR go broody, but she was an awful mother. If I were you, I would just pick up some test eggs from a farm. Less chance of ruining some really expensive eggs!
