so I finally got oyster grit and...

One of my EE hens went through a weird molt during december-January shes starting to look normal again not like edward scizzorhands got ahold of her feathers..lol.
Still no eggs from her and she used to lay every other day and, but, I read it can take several months for a hen to begin laying again after a molt..

Good idea. I had it in in a tray. Well, i was feeding them laying pellets until i was informed by a member unless i have a battery chick farm strictly laying hens its actually not all what its cracked to be for yout average flock owner so i switched to a all age feather fixer feed, which BTW they love. So maybe thats why they didnt touch it they are gettib everything needed from healthier feed i switched them ri same day i purchased a bag of oyster grit! :)

Do you know what the % calcium is in the feather fixer? Should be on the label.

Ok i just keeo seeing posts about steady having oyster
As others have said, they will eat it when they need it.
Yes, i comprehend that. I kept reading to always have oyster grit available and now that i do they wont touch it. LOL i was doing the old fashioned egh shell grit but i got tired of taking forever bc unless i had it finely shredded i mean tiny my flock would turn their little beaks to eggshell grit!#lol

Ok, I just want to clarify something here....oyster shell calcium is not grit. Grit is usually granite, and works to break down food, since they don't have teeth. Oyster shell, is a calcium supplement. They usually won't eat it regularly, and usually not much when they do eat it. It lasts a very long time. While layer feed has more calcium, by design, gamebird feed, feather fixer, etc. still contain a fair amount of calcium, so they may tend to eat a little more of the oyster shell, than if they were fed layer feed, but they still won't eat a large amount of the oyster shell. That's why it's offered as free choice. It doesn't tend to spoil or go bad like feed does, so it doesn't have to be changed out too often.

18% highesr the store had when i went. I almost bought game bird food but my EE hen is only one tthat just went through a molt but I didnt know how it would affect others b/c I read game food works awesome During and after molts, but, since 1 out of 9 is molting i figured this feed would be more suitable for all of my flock outside.. They like it atleast : )

Molt affects their egg laying abilities, but light does too. Daylight hours are shorter in the winter, and is the time of year they get a break from egg laying. Normally, once the days get longer, they will resume laying.
