Some girls on the track team found three heeler pups in an alley, alone, hungry, a little skinny and in a DUMPSTER!
Why would anyone DO THAT??
Anyway, after much groveling (by these girls to my husband--their track coach)--he said okay!
But on the condition that if he doesn't work out, I have to find him a new home...which seems reasonable...but what are the chances? DH did tell me that heelers are notorious chicken-killers...which made me stop & think....but I'm hoping he'll turn out alright...he's maybe 5 weeks old.
Did I mention he's PRECIOUS???
I went into the feed store and left him on the passenger side FLOOR of my car, thinking I wouldn't be more than a few minutes and there was no way he could climb up. I got back and there he was--curled in MY seat, in the sun. I opened the door and he leapt up and started barking & GROWLING at me with a stiff tail. As soon as I put my hand out & started talking, he started wagging his tail. He tried to "nurse" on my sweater the entire ride. Cash and Brodee seem annoyed & curious but not overly jealous, yet. Butters already asserted his dominance and you'd think the poor puppy got beat! He was yowling and hid under the stairs.
He "helped" feed & water everything, right at my heels the entire time. He so far, is very scared of the poultry...which I think is good. He's too curious about the horses, though and I had to pack him & feed with one hand so he did not discover the Wrath of Bart.
I mixed up some milk replacer into some puppy chow with warm water and he snarfed that up. He did go pee in the driveway and now he's passed out on the floor. I got him food, the milk replacer and a PARVO shot. Oh and I got a crate all cleaned out for him so I'll have a place to lock him and start crate training him.
I'm going to get some pics...
