LOL My husband says he's going to try to cook a few nights a week this summer (he's a teacher & has summers off)...so we'll see...I think he might think it's fun...and besides, he made some of the BEST chocolate chip cookies, ever!

He is precious. As far as the heeler/chicken issue, I have had a red heeler and a red heeler/aussie mix with my chickens. The pure breed was older when first introduced and doesn't care one bit about them. The pup was first introduced at 5 weeks and only pays attention to them when I am trying to lock the birds up. She likes to herd them, but has never tried to nip or attack.

My heeler and my chickens have been together forever. She has never, not once, tried to take any of my birds. She's 'pushed' them into corners, or grouped them together into a 'herd' but has never actually attacked or killed one. She's a good girl with my birds.

What a cutie!! I love little puppy faces. How wonderful of you to give him a home!

I hope the other pups found such good homes! Getting him out and around the chickens at this age is excellent. The lessons they learn at this age tend to stay with them. So if a hen pecks at him for getting too close to a nesting box or a rooster goes after him for getting too close to his hens he will remember.
It's also very good to have him out with you without a leash. At this age he will remember to keep an eye on you so he isn't left alone. People are always impressed with my dogs recall. It's because I take them outside between 5-7 weeks old and let them follow me. If I have a pup that is more independant I will step behind something when the pup is distracted. That young they don't like being left alone and will come looking for me. This teaches the pup that he needs to keep track of where you are. I also work on recall at that age with lots of praise.
Good Luck with him, he is a beauty!
