At long last! I was gifted eight chicks of my own just yesterday. Life is so perfect but that is all for a later post when my worries are soothed.

I was carrying one of my cuddliest chicks around as one does, when she fell to the tile floor of my kitchen. I am 5’8” and she fell from about my waist. To add to the insult, my dog rushed in. Whether he grabbed her or not I couldn’t see. I snatched her up and checked her out. No punctures. When we got back to the brooder, she at first couldn’t stand, she just laid down with her eyes closed breathing heavily. Eventually, she opened them and started to stand rather wobbily and peep to her sisters (I had her on my desk away from them until she regained confidence). I put her in the brooder, she ate a little, drank a little, then plopped herself down and fell asleep. I’ve seen her waking up and eating. The only reason I’ve seen pecking is bc I put a little marker on her head so I could pick her out. (I put colors on all their heads afterward and no more pecks.) She is currently sleeping but every time I check on her she has moved a little closer to wherever her flock is. Her body is all dry and puffy now and she’s looking around but still lying down. I know this is long winded but I’m a new chicken mom and I just wanna make sure that her sleepiness is normal after being dropped and immediately grabbed/slobered on by a dog. Oh I have seen her poop, it looks normal. Haven’t seen her poop recently but will check for blood. But anyway all I’d like to know is if the sleepiness is a bad sign...

Keep an eye it and make sure it eats and drinks, drinking in particular, dehydration can be serious. You may need to dip the beak in water periodically to make sure it's drinking. It may be in shock and may improve with a little time. When they are so small in can be hard to know for sure what's going on with them. Make sure it can get in and out of warmth, and doesn't get chilled. If there are no internal injuries, it may recover fine with a bit of time and support. Make sure it doesn't get trampled by the others.

Came up to check and she was chasing her sister. Dipped her beak just in case but she’s more like herself. :)

Totally fine. She is running, eating, pooping, cheeping, drinking, and of course, sleeping as if nothing ever happened. :)
