Just remember me when all of these chicks hatch and you're overwhelmed with them all. I'll be happy to take some off your hands, especially if any quail hatch!

Well....

I am building a coop to house 40 more chickens. I have a plan to expand my chicken business this year to be ready to go full tilt next year.

I have many brooders- three are in the basement where I keep the chicks for the first couple of weeks. Then I have a commercial style Brower Brooder in my garage that works until they are about 6 weeks old. After that, they will go into a trailer pen I have outside that works great for a grow out brooder and I'll also have a brooder pen set up in my coop. At around 4 months old, I will eat most of the cockerels. The pullets I decide not to keep as breeders will be sold locally.

I assure you that none of these were bought on impulse or a whim. It was carefully thought out and planned from the the breeds to who I bought them from to the amount of eggs to the plans for them from the time they arrive all the way through to when they start laying.

The really brown eggs are actually the Delaware eggs.

Hope that answers your questions- It IS a lot of eggs! I am currently awaiting a call from the PO for my last two boxes!

We admitted we were powerless over the desire for more chickens - That our flocks had become unmanageable.

Been there, done that.

I think there are some people here who don't realize Buster is actually
starting his own small hatchery and that this has been a long term goal
of his.

Pretty soon he'll have to build a coop like yours' Steve.

Thanks PC. You are right. I'm trying to have enough birds to keep up with the local demand. I had to pull my Craigslist ad yesterday so I don't get swamped. Next year I hope not to have that problem.

Funny thing about Steve's coop is that the new one I'm building has the same square footage. Steve inspired me. DW says that the chickens have to pay for the next one.
