So this is the story of how I got a major spook doing some spring cleaning in the rabbit/chicken compound.

I had already spent hours cleaning the pen, shoveling out winter straw from the covered portion of the run before I finally made it to the rabbit hutches. I peeled back the galvanized roof when I heard some squeaking! My reaction? Drop the piece of galvanized roofing back in place.

What I didn't realize was that the squeaking sound I heard came from a nest of baby mice (probably around a week or two old). What I also didn't realize was that when I dropped the roof piece, this would cause the mice began to panic and squirm out of the nest, right towards the edge of the roof of the cage! So I stood there not knowing what to do as I watched these baby mice fall off the roof of the rabbit cage. They survived the fall! BUT, I was like, "the chicken run is probably not a good place for these squirmy mice babies, I should save them." To my horror, the chickens saw the baby mice immediately and YEETED it over faster than you can say, "Nooooo" and began grabbing the baby mice and running away with them!

I just stood there. In shock. Not a baby mouse was left. Not a chicken in sight.

Now, to make matters worse, I think the mouse ghosts are haunting the chicken run because the ground was moving on it's own yesterday (in a very ghost-mouse way)!

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while Spring cleaning your livestock pens?
