well I used 4x4's on mine framed it up and put metal sheeting on it to match garage and filled in my ends on my roof and the spaces between the 2x4 stringers and metal serve as ventilation and i can wash it down with a garden hose here is a url to a picture http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd383/matthewjam72/Dominicker Chickens/100_0247.jpgre

The point is not so much to waterproof the wood as to prevent poo and dust from adhering so tightly.

Rubber roofing works great! It helps to have a wife who is a roofer

, but you could probably find a local roofer/contractor who could provide you with suitable sized scraps.
