Very nice size drake...I use to keep about 30 varieties of Muscovies....my favorite duck breed.... The only thing I'd watch out for that can cut him down at a show is the extra black/mullberry color in his Caruncles.....that is a defect...red is preferred....other than that....Wow!!!!

I thought the Black caruncles were a bad thing for show Scovies... I actually prefer it in my birds though, I love the way it looks.

Yes...I said it was a defect....some black males get it. ....it's genetic and for show you'd rather NOT have it. Try to breed from females that don't show this and then keep a son from that cross. Depending where you show...some judges really frown upon it and others...well:/. I had my best win ever with a Muscovy..... actually twice....Best Heavy Duck at the Ohio National back in the 90's and her daughter the following Spring was Best of Show at our Michigan show...both were blacks. Keep breeding those Muscovies!!!

I actually prefer more black in the carnuncles, too, especially for the wild-type muscovies. It looks more natural.

lol. I really dont like the Black Caruncling but I like his size. Before I bought him I talked to 3 well known judges and they said he was worth it. He has awesome size and very even caruncling even if he has black. None of my hens have black in their caruncling so Im hoping the ducklings will be good. I raised over 250 last year so Im hoping this guy is just as fertile so I have another good year... Most Muscovies here are very small.... like the size of my Cayugas.. So most here are not ust to muscovies this big.
