So, I've been wondering....

It has crossed my mind a time or two to give incubating eggs a try. There are so many beautiful chickens out there! So I have been reading in this section, getting information on which kind of incubator I might like, and seeing what peoples issues are and hearing the excitement in everyones posts etc etc, and suddenly the thought occurs to me...what exactly are you guys *doing* with all those chicks you hatch?!? I mean, you could end up with thousands of chickens! Do you sell most of them? Eat them? Give them away? Keep them all! Ack!!
So, after all the fun of hatching and brooding...then what? Really. I'm serious.

i have given some to firends, some to family members, we eat the roos and you can sell the little chicks however when you incubate obviously not all the eggs hatch and not all the chicks make it so you really dont end up with too many unless your a crazy chicken person and fill your incubator to capacity lol not that i have ever done that

Ofcoarse, theres always that ONE chick who just gets to my heart and I just have to keep it ..

Or you end up like me where you keep building coops!

We hatched out a bunch of barnyard mixes to see the interesting chicks we'd get and use them to practice our processing skills before we butcher our dual purpose birds.

Oh. So the picture is never static, like if you got, say, a couple of dogs.
Build more coops, find auctions, find a processor ( or someone to teach me ), give them away to various concerns.
I think I need more coops. sigh
And THEN i need an incubator!! LOL I want to join the fun.....

I sold over two hundred chicks this past summer, and barely managed to keep any for myself. I could have sold more, there is a great demand where I live, now in winter time I don't incubate. The hens gives us eggs, and when we have too many roosters we eat them.
