So Many Depressing Things..But a New Beginning.

This is such a sad story. I'm so sorry for your losses. What's great is that you're able to open your heart up to new ducks. When some people experience a loss, they never want to love again. But those people miss out, so I'm glad you have new duckies to love.

It sounds like your parents are very supportive of your duck hobby and love the ducks too. I'd say the best thing to do, even before you get new ducks or other guard pets, is to figure out a better way to keep predators away from your ducks. You and your parents could look through the "Predators & Pests" section of BYC to get some ideas for keeping the ducks protected. For example, if you have especially persistent predators, you could do some reading about how to set up an electric fence and your parents could help you build one. Best of luck!

My sister has a terrier mix that keeps just about everything out of her lawn. Dogs can be great protectors of other animals. Otherwise a hotwired fence or traps can work. Cayanne pepper around the outside of a fence line can help too because it REALLY messes with a predator's senso of smell.
