So many questions about Bob White Quails????

I recently have thought about raising bob whites but really don't know what kind of market their is for them.I also would like to know what is the best ones to raise as far as easier to raise or more in demand for. My hubby used to help a man raise some a long time ago but really don't know where would be a good place to find them or really how much we should pay for them. I had a guy yesterday give me some quail eggs to put in my incubator so I am waiting to see if they hatch. I bought three of his I believe they are the Texas A&W Quail. They are white colored with some color on top of head. How do you tell the difference in the sex. Please help thanks

AS FOR THE COTURNIX BIRDS AND SEXING THEM.... ARE YOU BUSY THESE DAYS? I HOPE NOT, CAUSE THE MOST ACCURATE WAY TAKES SOME TIME BEING INVESTED.,.. I CALL IT BEER SEXING, AS IN GRAB A LAWN CHAIR AND A BEER AND TAKE A SEAT AND WATCH THEM.... IF ITS ON TOP ITS LIKELY A ROO/ IF ITS ON BOTTOM ITS EITHER A HEN OR A LOWER RANKED AND UNFORTUNATE ROO/ IF IT LAYS AN EGG ITS DEFINATELY A HEN/ AND IF IT CROWS ITS DEFINATELY A ROO WHITE IN QUAIL IS THE ABSENCE OF COLOR... THEREFORE THESE BIRDS CANNOT BE COLOR SEXED.

Yes, sounds like Texas A & M's. If they are laying/breeding it is fairly easy to vent sex them although I'm not sure how well I can explain it. The males will have a bump above the vent and white foamy stuff comes out if squeezed. The females are also usually the larger of the two unlike most birds.

I'm unsure of Florida laws, but here in Illinois coturnix quail are not considered a gamebird and require no permit. Bobwhites do require a permit but it is very reasonably priced.

In my opinion coturnix are much easier to raise if you're just wanting a meat bird not something to release & hunt. They take a lot less time to reach maturity although are not quite as big as bobs.
