hello, I have had laying hens for 3 years now and just recently one of them decided she wanted to be a broody hen. so I went to a near by farm and got some fertilized eggs but not just chicken eggs I also got quail eggs duck eggs guinea fowl and a turkey eggs. after replacing the unfertilized eggs she was trying to set with the new ones I started getting different information. the farmer I got the eggs from had said the mother hen would probably ignore the quails once they hatch and stay on the eggs until all the eggs have hatched, and another person has told me the complete opposite that she will take care of the young and leave the eggs and i will have to put the eggs under a heat lamp to keep them alive. I am more interested in having the new hens and the duck hatch so wondering if I should remove the quails eggs at some point?

Did you put all the different eggs together under her? They have different incubating times... I heard guinea eggs take 28 days? Don't know about the others. Chicken eggs take around 21 days.

yes I put them all in at the same time they do have different hatch times, the quails will be ready in 14 days and the the chickens in 21 and the turkey, fowl and duck in around 28 so just trying to figure out if I should take eggs out right before they hatch and raise them or leave the hen to raise the first batch and put the rest under the heat lamp or will she stay on the nest if there are still eggs and others have already hatched? I was giving a lot of information from the farmer I got the eggs from but after lots of reading I have found opposite information.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Unfortunately it is unlikely she will set the nest for the 28 days the guineas will require. You could put the eggs with different inubation times in an incubator.

hello and thanks for your reply!!! I will do that! I am very excited for the hen eggs I recieved and want to make sure they to very well :)
