So much was lost today

How is everyone doing? Are the storms finally over by you guys? I read that 80,000 chickens were loose since the coops were destroyed although frankly I am far more concerned about the people I cant imagine barns and coops staying intact with the pics of twisters I have seen on the news. Have all the BYC members living in those areas been accounted for? If there is anyone who needs replacement birds after all this is said and done PM me and i will help out any way i can with free chicks/eggs from my various flocks.

My family, personal property, and chickens are all fine. Others are not so lucky. I am a first responder and this is the first chance I have had to get back on BYC. All off time has been cancelled and we are working 12 hour shifts. Still doing search and rescue as well as recovery and it is slow going. This town will look different from now on. Some of the oldest areas of town will have to be completley rebuilt. I have seen things as a result of this event that blow my mind. You can't appreciate the gravity of it without seeing it firsthand. Thanks for all your concerns and prayers. We are going to have a long row to hoe.

I know and it makes me sick! Great they are getting married hooraaah Now can we get back to our lives and our countries needs????

I agree with you totally! I was shocked when this morning I heard the death toll - if I didn't read the online news, I would not have had a CLUE because down here, nothing on TV has been shown about the storms. Nothing. The news channels have been overrun by footage of people getting ready for the wedding...

I went out for my usual TNR (Thursday night ride) from the campus of ETSU here in Johnson City. Lately I've been riding a route called the Chuckey 38 because it heads towards Chuckey Tn. and is 38 miles long. The far end of the route is down where some of the local damage happened. There were quite a few trees down and I did see a house and 4 barns leveled with debris in a lot of the fields. Not sure if it was tornadic or straight line wind damage as that can only be determined with an eye witness or an aerial survey.

I know that we got off lucky with as few deaths and as little damage as we had here.

My mom lost 3 chickens. Her chicken pens and houses were turned upside down and most of the chickens were trapped in the nesting boxes and under sheet metal. One of the chickens died in the storm when the pole of one of the pens landed on it and the other 2 had injuries that were not fixable and were soon put out of their pain. A guy up the street from my mom had a horse whose leg got ripped off. They live in Spalding County in Georgia the tornado went right through their yard. My ex husbands brother lost his house, it was moved from the foundation. The only part standing was the laundry room which was were they were at.

Hey Wisher1000, Thank God you are okay!

How can we help? Is there some place that we could send some money that won't take a cut off of the top? Or, would you take some money, and hand it out as you see fit? Or, are there other needs that you know of that we can help with? I can't help a whole lot, but there has to be something that we can do. I would imagine the most immediate need is for shelter, water, non-perishable food, batteries, first aid supplies, clothing etc.

The place I work at was hit in 99, in 05 a friend's home was hit. I know the devastation first hand, and I am sorry you are going through it. I know that there are some organizations that will take up to 50% of any donation, so if you know of a local church who is accepting donations, and a means to get the money there, I would like to know about it. I wouldn't mind, at all, just sending whatever I am able to send straight to you to just give away. You are one of us, and I really want to help if there is a way that I can. Please let us know.
