Hello everyone,
I just received my chicks yesterday so I am brand new to this lol.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Just got them yesterday so yup brand new.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 13 chicks - 12 days old
(3) What breeds do you have? Jersey giants, Lakenvelder, Barnevelder, Icelandic, Plymouth Rock barred.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? So far I'm just enjoying watching the chicks lol. But I am super excited by some of the ways I've seen that you can use chickens to make your compost.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? gardening, reading, herbalism,.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I bought a house in the country about a month before covid first hit. We've been enjoying country life and getting set up to be more self-sufficient. We have a son, a lovely labrador named Daisy, and a hamster. I'm a teacher working on my masters so I'm very interested in all things education related as well.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Prior to getting our chicks I did months of research about chickens. BYC kept popping out whenever I was searching on google for a piece of information or an answer to a question I had. I found all the information super helpful and everyone here seems really willing to help and share information.
