I had something of a short, yet interesting conversation today with the brother of one of my friends. We were discussing something about would you eat horse meat, yes or no, and I said yes. He countered with, "You don't eat beautiful animals! That's why we eat pigs and chickens. It's because they're UGLY."

I looked right at him and said, "Maybe some are, but not all of them. I have several good-looking hens and my rooster is gorgeous."

He stopped after that, but I still got a kick out of his reasoning. That, or I could have kicked him for his reasoning. Not sure which it is........

We don't typically eat horses in our culture, but it is legal to do so in several places. Some cultures do eat horse more often. I think people don't eat horse as much because they have other more practical uses and it takes so long to feed them up to maturity.

And I bet you do have good looking hens and a gorgeous rooster!

Sometimes you just hear things that just make an impression, don't you.
I have to agree though, chickens and pigs do not fit under the same category! I have seen some absolutely beautiful birds in my time.

True true. I think piglets are cute little stinks, and I like most all chickens - even the ones that are normally bred for food. My retort to him after all of that was something like, "Well if you only want to eat what's ugly, then have at it with all the bugs in the yard!"

(But I've seen some really cool looking bugs, too! Hehe)

WHAT!! Pigs arent ugly...!

I second that!

To which I would reply: venison, lamb, and rabbit are all quite tasty.
