Just to note, the chicks are 6 weeks old in this picture and had just had the divider fence removed. They had never been around adult chickens before
and were off heat since 2 weeks and it was 70 degrees. A sex link decided to adopt and sit on them even though they are half her size. She had a hard time getting them stay put, to say the least, determined as she was. 🤣

Yes...once in awhile a production hen will have enough hormone genes left to actually want to brood or babysit.

I have occasionally had Black Sexlinks want to brood. Never a Red Sexlink, for me.

But yes. It can happen.

Good for auntie (what I call those gals that don't want to arduously sit for 21 days but love to take care of the kids once they've grown a bit).
