I’m so proud of this young hen! I don’t have many people to share in my excitement so hopefully a few of you think this is cool.
Backstory: I had two hens go broody at the same time. We don’t have a rooster and they would not stop sitting in the nesting boxes. Someone in a local poultry Facebook page posted that she found a hidden nest and wasn’t sure exactly how long she had been sitting on 14 eggs. I messaged her and picked up the eggs on Tuesday. Yesterday, Thursday, I went out to the coop and heard chirping! 12 have hatched so far! We lost 2 unfortunately but we currently have #13 hatching.
“Big mama” as my daughter calls her, has not left these babies and is so gentle. I definitely didn’t need this many chicks and was hoping that even just a few of the eggs were fertile. The gal I got them from got her rooster 2 months ago so she wasn’t entirely sure whether he was doing his job yet.
