I don't know why I'm posting because there is really nothing else left to say. Within two hours, a neighbor's dog killed all five of my hens. My kids and I are heartbroken. I had no idea something like this could happen so fast, and in this way. There is no trace of one of my hens, and I'd like to think she's okay and I'll find her in the morning. But, man, I love those girls. = (

I need some help now please. We found two of our girls. One is injured badly. her back has open sores; it looks like a puncture wound of sorts. What do I do? I have lanacaine for humans and neosporin. I have cleaner for my dog's sores. Do I use that stuff? Do I get something from tractor supply? Do I take her to the vet? I don't know what to do... please help me.

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry this happened.
If you have access to a vet that sees chickens and have the finances for that I would take them. But in the mean time you should post your question in Emergencies/Disease section and lots of people are there that can give advice. Also, just look through old questions on there because your answers may already be there! From what I've read the first thing you should do is bring them inside and keep them warm. offer food and water because they may eat. Chickens are very resilient and yours will hopefully recover with some TLC! Wishing you the best

Neosporin would work well. I have a can of Blue Kote which is a spray on anti-septic for animals. It sounds like your last two girls are both injured so the clear neosporin is fine. The Blue Kote is just that, dark blue. Animals will peck at others sores so the dark covering prevents that. With both injured I doubt they'll be doing much pecking right now but watch for it as they are healing up. Blue Kote is available at any feed store. Chickens are very resilient, odds are they'll be up and running in a day or two.

I don't have experience to give you advice on what to do but I can recommend that you begin a new thread in the disease/injuries section of the forum with a header that states your chickens are injured due to a predator. That will give someone with experience a chance to see your post and you'll get a quicker response.

I have used blue kote and neospore on my hens hawk attacked back side. She was pretty tore up but healed.

Hope the dog is no more.I can't stand roamers,but sometimes worse is their owners reaction to what their pet did.Best wishes.

Thank you everyone; it's been a pretty hectic and crazy day. We put blue kote on Lucky, and she's been eating and drinking some. But she's mainly sleeping. Interestingly enough, one of our other girls showed up down at the coop this afternoon. I'm just amazed; my husband and I saw what we thought was her last night, and we thought she was dead. But they're both resting in a pen in our dining room. I'm hoping they make it... Lucky's pretty bad. Mary, the other one, has a puncture wound also, but she actually laid an egg in the pen. We're crossing our fingers. Thank you SO MUCH for the advice. I think the people on backyard chickens are some of the nicest and most helpful folks I've ever talked with.
