I bought 3 silver laced wyandotte pullets from the pullet bin at the farm store - and guess what? They are ALL roos. Just turned 4 weeks and all of them have red on their combs and wattle development already. Grrrr... !!!!! I already have 5 roosters - I cannot have 8!!!

Wow. I know when chicks are sexed there's about a 90% chance it'll be a pullet. But to get 3 roos? Sounds fishy to me.

I hear the freezer lid opening

Yea I hear ya I haven't broke the bad new's to hubby yet.He bought 12 black sex link's that were all supposed to be pullet's.They aren't even 2 week's old yet and 2 of them have some diff.coloring already and trying to roost one even keep's flying out so most likely 2 roo's lol.Well I guess 10 out of 12 (supposed) hen's isn't bad considering the first RIR's We ever bought from a local guy 10 out of 12 were Roo's lol. Can't figure the red sexlink's yet I got from straight run box I picked a week before he got the black. They are looking the same none flying or roosting yet.Got a bantam(I bought 23 of those) no less than 2 weeks old and that lil buggar was on the light cord earlier.Free Rooster's Anyone??? lol.

Roosting isn't a sign of being a rooster, my barred rocks and my friends(from the same order) are roosting on small branches and some have tried out thier wings and they are only 1 week, give chicks a branch;) I would wait it's way too young to tell yet.

I got my first batch of chicks ever by responding to someone on a local board that was giving away free chicks. I figured hey! Free Chicks! She had hatched a bunch of eggs and told me that she had already let her friends and family pick out the ones they wanted and that she had 7 left.

But Free Chicks!

I am pretty sure that I have 2 pullets with a possibility of a 3rd but I am not holding my breath. I guess those other people were pretty good at picking out the girls eh?

Yup, we're making space in the freezer. I already told my family that that is where they are heading so don't get attached; to which my son said "but I am already attached!!!" lol... My DH told him that all our animals have a job, and some of the roosters need to head to freezer camp to feed the family.

Yuppers. I just figured up that in my grow-out pen I have 11 birds (that much I knew, lol) but I'm KEEPING 2 cockerels out of there, and I STILL have 6 to get rid of!!!

So out of 11, 8 are boys,
and I'm feeding more birds for freezer camp than I am for breeding/egglaying purposes
