So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Wow! We have aquariums, one tropical and one native minnows. That one is fun because we go minnowing at grandma's.
I would like to try dairy goats, but I know I need to have a secure place for them at night and right now it isn't feasible.

We have a German Shepard, a ridge back without the ridge, and a golden retriever who is the silliest -most fun ever.
We also have a lot of gardens, the herb garden looks a bit shabby right now with the heat and humidity, and the rest of them are getting prepped for the next vegetable gardens. We have an orchard, but we are in that weird part of the world that is too hot for most things and too cold for everything else. so we have muscadine grapes and sand pears...and mulberries -sometimes.
I have peppers in the green house and I am trying to figure out how to get hydroponics and aquaponics going in one of the others... There are some gardening threads on here to you might want to join.

This one is seed swapping- not spit swapping, Doug has a sense of humor.

Jump in if you have time.

I am preparing to get my son off to college, so I am not doing my normal summer things this year.
Every morning I wake up and think of something else he will need. We live in Florida and he is going off to New York, so all I can think of is how unprepared we are for cold weather... mom angst.

There are also the sister sites for herds, gardens and self sufficiency.
I try to pop in over there once in a while but I find I am too comfortable here, but they are really good people over there too!

Thank you for all the information, I will check them all out, I am up here in Wisconsin, I find it too hot in the summer, so I can't imagine how Florida is, I can't wait for cooler temperatures, your son just might be shocked by the winters, be most people acclimate.

My goats are mostly dairy goat whethers saved from Easter Dinner, they can be a challenge to keep contained, but I enjoy them and enjoy out smarting them. You have big hairy dogs, you must vacuum more than me. Thanks for making me feel welcome.

I'm in remission--just about the scariest place to be, in my opinion. You're not sick, but it could still come back.

Talking about the dogs being family---those on my thread know how much I was missing my dogs while I had to stay in Portland for treatment and recovery. I've been home with them for a few months now and thought I was over it, but apparently not. I was watching that old show Dogs with Jobs and they were showing a dog visiting kids in the hospital and I just started crying and crying--I'd so, so wanted to have a dog, pretty much any dog, visit me while I was there. No pets at all were allowed on my floor cause it's a bone marrow transplant wing--all clean, it's like the entire floor is on isolation. So, I'm sitting on my sofa, bawling my eyes out about something that happened months ago, and my very distressed Roscoe is unhappy I'm crying...Eve was asleep and never noticed

. Bless her heart.

Here's Roscoe, he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders since I've been sick.....

Sounds like you're getting some good physical therapy, taking care of all those critters and gardens! I'm going through garden withdrawal this year. No dirt or plants for me until September, then they'll see how things are going. It's pretty much too late to plant anything here then, except maybe carrots and beets....but next year will be better!

I'm so sorry you hate your doctor. I can't imagine going through all this without a wonderful medical team, mine has been amazing. That must have been like piling poop on top of crap....

That is awesome! I have heard of dogs detecting cancers before. They are amazing creatures. Thanks for sharing your story. I hope you have a wonderful day.

My dog Roscoe acted weird around me right before I was diagnosed also. I thought it was because I had taken a trip (he quits speaking to me when I leave home

) but in retrospect it could have been the cancer. My youngest son said I smelled "wrong" but he didn't know how to tell me lol. We've had a talk about not being afraid to offend Mom if she smells funky like that again.

Love your Spike, she's adorable

. Absolutely use her as a cancer detector, but maybe you won't want to tell your doc you're there because your dog sent you

Dogs know so much more than we give them credit for, isn't it strange how we smell different with cancer, I know the dogs I lost to cancer had funky breath
