So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Quote:
I saw the cutest little old lady in the grocery store with one of those on. I had to stop and talk to her about it. She got it at the hospital where she goes for Physical Therapy. I think they were for the cancer patients but I can't imagine anyone tell this sweety that she couldn't have one. It was short and fuzzy and looked like a short hair cut. She was some proud of that cap!

I just learned to knit with a circle loom. Of course, I bought lots of yarn!!! What is your favorite color?? I have made some with colored beads between the stitches (not all over, just on the brim). Would beads be "your thing"??? With the summer coming up, you may only need one or two "caps". Scarves or other lighter weight head coverings may be more comfortable. I can sew. I am sure that there are patterns out there. Just tell me what you would like!

Luna....you need to come out and play. Dump the bashful and tell us the colors you like. I have a hard time letting people do things for me, but someone asked me once how I feel when I do something for others and I replied that it made me feel good. That same person asked me why I would deprive someone else of feeling good by not letting them do something for me. A point well made.

So speak up or you might get a zebra hat.

Wow you guys.

DH (Paul) and I left work early yesterday and I managed to do some more yard stuff and I have today off and the rest of the weekend off to finish up the yard junk I have to do. Last night I crashed at 9:30.

You all are too kind! I measured according to the directions and I came up with medium for the wigs, and when I tried them on, they were a little snug because of my mega hair, but I wanted to see if they looked alright. When my hair falls completely out, I'm sure they'll fit fine. I wish I could knit or crochet, but I was teaching myself once and........FAIL

Orp sent me a really cool tie dyed do rag thing I'm going to use on those hot muggy days.

Did you get my PM Orp? I did sew my own scarf out of leftover batik fabric, it's a little stiff, so I'll give it another wash. I like most things.....just not too cutesy, since you asked.

How long does it take for the hair to fall completely out? Yesterday was a large gob but it doesn't look like I'm missing hair yet......I didn't comb (I use a pick comb) my hair yet today. I'm stuffing the hair that falls out into a container, just for sh*ts and giggles. I figure when it looks raggedy, then Paul will shave it off for me. I'm starting to feel that tight scalp feeling more often now.......ack. I think my hair might hang in there at least til my chemo date on Wednesday.

*Dear Ms. Almighty Universe: Please let me keep my eyebrows and eyelashes!

Pretty please?* - Can't hurt right?

oops, my bad! I didn't reply to that PM. I've been crazy busy! Glad you got it! It seemed like a good summer cap. Very lightweight! Not to mention, happy colors.

I'll have more time to knit soon, so medium in purple?

I love purple.

The gobs of hair coming out is getting bigger each day. This was yesterday's gob:

Today after my shower I'm sure it will be almost double that.

It's alright, I'm kinda fascinated by this whole thing in a weird way.

These are my two wigs:

I guess I'll use the shorter one first, then the longer one. The hair that's coming out is from underneath my top layer which is more reddish, I suppose from exposure to the sun or something. Anyway this is my hair now: (having a lot of hair has it's advantages, it doesn't look like I'm losing it yet)

I'm hoping it stays decent looking for at least a week, but it's gonna do what it's gonna do.

What gorgeous wigs, love that long one!! So sorry what you are going through, and I hope the wigs helps because every woman knows how you feel when your hair is icky, just adds more stress to what you are already going through!! My thoughts and prayers are with you! Your own hair is pretty too!!!!

Thank you Whispering Winds. This gob was from this morning.....................

So for Mother's Day Paul is going to shave my head, and I'll shave his. There's not much left after this morning, only just enough to cover my scalp. If the wind blows......I'm in trouble.

I'm having my sister over tomorrow with BIL and I'll use one of my wigs so I can get used to it for Monday. OR, maybe I'll just wear a scarf tomorrow. So far I still have my brows and eyelashes.

Wednesday when I go for my 2nd treatment I'll look the part now with my scarf.

Luna,

for being so determined to prepare yourself. Still, it must be a little disconcerting. Very cool that your DH is going to shave his head, too. I have a friend here who did that to show solidarity with her friend who was undergoing chemo. I also have another friend whose entire family shaved their heads through her entire chemo. The support is awesome! Kudos to your DH!

YEAH FOR MR. LUNA!!!!! I shaved mine off to support a friend when she lost hers. Some people freaked, "Why would you do such a thing?!" It's just hair! I had just gotten my first hair cut after it grew back when I was diagnosed. You know, it actually bothered me worse when I was 18 and they had to shave my head for surgery. Broke my neck and they did a bone graft. I wouldn't leave the house except for Dr. appointments until it grew in.

I'm so proud of you! Your determination to get past this "bump in the road" is awesome!! You are an inspiration for others going through this.
