I started a candle lighting for Mr. Burtis, and I want to extend it here for ALL of you brave warriors -- you are in our thoughts & prayers every single day here. I had one of the 'easy' cancers - thyroid, years ago, have been in remission ever since & count my blessings every day.

JJ-Thanks. I just need sleep. I either can't sleep or sleep in a drug induced state that isn't restorative sleep. I usually fall asleep on the couch at least once a day! I'm going to have to get padding for my lap top because it's usually on my lap when I do fall asleep and it ends up on the floor. DH fussed at me the other day. "You need to stop dropping your laptop on the floor. We can't afford to fix it" It's not like I'm slinging it down there on purpose, sheesh.

Well, I've been busy taking DH to Dr's last week and yesterday and again today.

Some of you may know already that he was diagnosed with RA. It has been particularly vicious lately and has started attacking his lungs. Now he has pulmonary fibrosis because of the RA. He has only started to heal from his broken L3 (lower back) and we go visit the Orth Doc this afternoon to get an Xray to see if he is healing properly. Anyone that has this knows there are good days and bad days. The last two days he didn't sleep cause of the nagging ache in his back. There is no cure and he knows this, he also isn't very proactive about it so I'm learning as much as I can and feed him the info.

The steroids he was taking did horrible damage to his bones and cartilage. Now he is weaning himself off those with my help...(nag, nag, nag) the Doc says he could very easily break his back again & again

It's the nature of the beast.

Time to light another candle.

A friend of mine has had RA since she was very small: she had a heart attack from the constant inflammation response. If he complains of chest pains, don't brush it off.

Dang Luna I didn't realize it had gotten that bad. Steroids are bad news, they do a wonderful job for what they are needed for BUT cause havoc in others. Keep on nagging girl! I know it hurts for him to move, but the less he does the harder it will be as time goes on.

How are you feeling?? Have you been to the docs lately?


Suppose to have chemo tomorrow. Will find out about the liver tests then. Keep your fingers crossed we can make it down the mountain in the morning. We may get "something" overnight but they aren't sure how much. I don't want to slid off the bridge and into the river. It's too dang low to drown in at this time (no rain) but the sudden stop would kill me! Hopefully this storm will miss us. Waiting to here from my buddy in Atlanta, if they get it we get it. Strange I know, but hardly ever get snow coming out of the mountains. I think they are too tall for the storms to get over. Get this...Southern NJ where I was raised and my folks still live, don't get snow unless it moves up from NC. They are protected by the Deleware Bay and Atlantic Ocean from 90% of the storms coming out of the west and north. Southern and nor'easters pack a whollop though!

Ginny - So sorry for the troubles your DH is having and hope that things simmer down soon and that you both have a much more peaceful 2011.

I always try to look at the bright side of things, no matter what. It really helps! We went over the MRI and DH had another Xray taken. He healed really well considering the damage done.

He just has to be very careful while walking around. He uses a cane now and has a walker for those "unsteady" days. They said he has the bones of a 75 y.o. woman.

He has his pain meds for those bad days, lidocaine patches etc. We'll just have to manage, and we will.

Another bright side: He & I will retire this June. We have it all figured out, we just have to get thru another tax season and we have someone taking over for us and then we're done! I'll be a young retiree!

JJ - I hope we ALL have a peaceful 2011!

3goodeggs - I never knew that RA could affect your organs.......everything else is good with DH, he gets blood work done every 3 months to check for that. It just started in his lungs and hopefully doesn't go anywhere else. And congrats on your new status!
