I have been wondering about you! I am glad all is well!
Great news on the half way point and riding yourself of the port.

Quote: Well... The 1950's Japanese yard sale sewing machine is an acceptable sewing machine. I, however am not such an acceptable sewer. I was going for a 12.5x12.5 block, but my cutting and sewing skills landed me with four 6.25 x6.25 blocks. I thought bigger would be easier, but it isn't.
I understand the wheel razor and mat now. I used a square edge so many times this way and that that they should all be the same size... umm, just make a cat pillow with mine.

Anyhow, I just need to embroider my name on a square and I will mail you my efforts.
I have a lot of dogie, bone and paw print fabric left. Would you like it?
Please PM your address. Thanks!
Jan

I totally get the majic and hope you got mine. I weigh 126lbs, can you beleive it. It still isn't real. I am not cured of anorexia but have learned to deal with in while kicking cancers butt. I am a SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote: Argh! I had a nightmare last night that I made them .25 inches too small. I did!
I can get some more fabric and add I/2 inch in the center and make a 12 1/2 inch square. That's me and sewing. I told my son yesterday that sewing is my calculus. The only thing I ever flat out failed at.
It may take a bit longer now.

now set me straight. if my squares are 6 1/4 inches and I use a 1/4 inch seam allowance, then if I make a 12 1/2 block then I need to use 1 1/2 inches of something to get 1/2 inches of seam allowance to add to the 1/4 on the small squares and then that will give me aggh!
6 1/4 +1 1/2 -1/2 for seam gives me 7 1/4 then I add the second square and I get 7 1/4 +6 1/4 -1/2 for the seams and that should be a width of 13 inches. oops. SO, if I add a band of just---wait you need it to be 12.5 inches and another 1/4 inch all around for seam allowance?
Sewing is just math with sharp pointy things. neither are my joys. but i want to sew. I shouldn't build bridges either.

Hello guys. I wanted to check in on you all and let everyone know that there is life after chemo. I am doing very well. Better than I expected to be. I have said this before and I will say it again "CHEMO SAVED MY LIFE." I am talking about the nasty eating disorder I had. Anyway I hope all is well and after I do alot of reading I should be caught up on all you guys.

Gin you have been in my prayers. Hope all is well.

BTW all my scans and bloodwork came out good. I am 2 months past the half way point of 5 years. I get to have my port out. YIPPIE

I've been thinking of you lately Sara!! Thank you for the PM - I'm doing fine, and I'm SO GLAD that you are too!! One step at a time honey...you can do it. You just gotta beat that black cloud over your head, whoosh it away, you are meant to be here - and you have every right to be here, that black cloud doesn't belong here does it??

I agree about the port coming out......it was very freeing

*Dewey - so glad you don't have that darn port in you anymore~

Can you sew the 4 blocks that you have finished together, then border the entire unit with one of the fabrics that you used? You said you had some left over. It is tricky to sew narrow strips between the blocks as they will be so tiny. If you sew the 4 units together you would end up with a 12x12 inch block. To be safe cut the outside border piece larger than you need (say 2"), then trim it down to get the 12 1/2" block.

Thanks! I will do that. That is how I made the smaller blocks 'square'...and obviously too small. I will not have to worry about grabbing too much seam allowance that way.
I feel like a Styrofoam brain when I sew. It is not something I do often enough to figure out on my own.

Don't over think it, hon! Make it fun! I tend to make things bigger and cut them down to the right size. Patchwork befuddles me, I can never make 2 blocks come out the same size. That's the thing about "Unruly" quilting, Things don't have to be perfect for it all to work out.

Luna, I got your pretty blocks.

JJ I haven't got you fabric together yet. Tomorrow I promise!
